Pulchritude

Today was what folks would call a mixed bag. On the one hand it was a gorgeous sunny day but on the other I worked through lunch and spent most of the day wearing a sweatshirt in my cube because even though we make some of the smartest & highest performing chips in the world, we apparently cannot get the hang of our thermostat settings.  On another hand I broke my resolution to leave work by 5:30 PM (max 6:00 PM) but on yet another hand, I managed to get a 3 miler in after work -  in fact, my fastest since I started running again recently. On the fifth hand I was very excited to finally see buds on my day lilies and Stargazer lilies this morning but on the sixth hand, I spent many anxious moments after I read online that these two kinds of lilies are very toxic for cats. Tangent - you would think that even with intellectual limitations (which I don't believe is true for cats - they know and understand EVERYTHING. They just play dumb), evolution would have taught cats to not go nibbling on these plants. Or maybe that was evolution helping lilies survive  - but seriously, don't you think acute renal damage is a  bit overkill? Seriously, lilies.  Anyways, I spent some time worked up on this issue until I decided that there was nothing to be done but to keep F from getting into the lilies (SP rarely bothers with them) for the rest of the summer and then moving all the lilies to a different location - out of F's regular circuit when we take her out. See - this is the problem with doing things. They never are fully done. I just thought I was done with the yard for this summer except for maintenance when this problem presented itself.  Anyways, where were we - oh yes, six hands. Well, on the seventh hand, I came home too late to help C with working on the basement but on the eighth hand, I came home too late to help C with the basement. Teehee. I kid, I kid. I really did want to help him & was bummed about it but on the eighth hand, I did get home in time to be able to pick the second batch of fresh strawberries from our patch - we got more that 3 dozen!  And finally, to round off this see-saw day, C responded quite casually to me showing him an itchy "bug bite" that had been bothering me for a few days saying "Oh, that's not a bug bite. That's poison ivy or oak or something." . What!? I'd been poisoned!?  Well, you'll be happy to know, dear reader, that I'm doing quite fine. After smearing the whole area with Aloe and getting over the initial shock of being poisoned in such a nonchalant manner by my own yard ( I presume), I am doing pretty good. So that was day - a pretty good one in retrospect. And now for the best part - Sir Wodehouse and bed.
